ICS Poland 2011
The International Ceramics Symposium Wroclaw is an annual symposium held in western Poland and organized by Monika Patuszynska and the Association of Polish Artists and Designers. It has been held since 1977, for the most part under the leadership of Anna Malicka Zamorska, one of Poland’s leading ceramic artists. It has grown to become the most prestigious ceramic symposium in Poland. Since 1998 it has been under the patronage of the International Academy of Ceramics. Last year 16 artists were invited to work in the porcelain factories in Walbrzych. For the Symposium there are three factories to choose from: “Krzysztof,” “Karolina” and “Walbrzych” each equipped with specialized porcelain and glazes, gas and electric tunnel kilns, and the “Lapp Insulators” factory equipped with technical porcelain, special grogged clay and gas tunnel kilns. There will also be a fully illustrated catalogue created for the artists including works and writing. I was invited through a recommendation from my colleague Jo Kamm, alumni of the Kansas City Art Institute, who traveled to Poland previously and made the connection with Monika Patusznska.
Here are some images of the work I produced in Poland. Check my blog for more photos of the factories and symposium.
